The Indian shot is native to Central America and has broad green or purplish-green leaves. The flowers are grouped in inflorescences of reddish, orange, yellow or pink colors. The fruits are elliptical capsules, brown in color, with a large number of black and very hard seeds.
The starch of this plant is easily digested and the flour, in Colombia, is used to make breads, biscuits or noodles.
