Conservation

We take care of the most important thing: the welfare of our animals.

What really matters to us at Selwo are our animals and their happiness. For this reason, we have numerous projects on which we work tirelessly every day. We want all our visitors to get involved with this objective... Read on and discover everything we do in our park!

Who are we?

Selwo Aventura is a new concept of park, where we aim to respect our flora and fauna with three key objectives: discover, learn and have fun.

Animal Welfare

All the species in Selwo Aventura receive the highest standards of care to achieve their maximum welfare, always under the strict care of qualified personnel formed by veterinarians, biologists and caregivers.

The varied terrain and size of the park allow the animals to live in controlled environments that reproduce their original habitats. A team of expert veterinarians, biologists and caretakers take care of the park's wildlife. Among the tasks of the Selwo Aventura's Wildlife Department team are the control of feeding, with personalized and balanced diets for each species; the observation and monitoring of the fauna and the special care that the department dedicates to reproduction, with a follow-up of the gestation and, later, of the offspring.

Conservation

Selwo Aventura, through the Parques Reunidos Foundation, participates in different projects aimed at the conservation and protection of wildlife, with a special section aimed at threatened and endangered species, the protection of the environment, biodiversity and social awareness of the problems facing the natural environment. The park is a member of prestigious international associations such as EAZA and AIZA, in addition to following the strategies of the WAZA on conservation and animal welfare.

Maintaining the environmental balance is a maxim for Selwo Aventura, which is committed to protecting endangered species of fauna and flora.

Parques Reunidos Foundation

One of the main objectives of the Parques Reunidos Foundation is to try to provide the information, education and awareness necessary to raise awareness of the complex problems facing the planet and its natural environments.

To do this, it is essential that we become aware of the great importance of sustainable development in line with the conservation of biological diversity that promotes reflection on our coexistence with nature and the environment.

Also, among the aims of the Foundation are the protection of children and the defense of the democratic principles of promoting tolerance and education in values and the promotion of volunteering and social action.

AIZA - Iberian Association of Zoos and Aquariums

The Asociación Ibérica de Zoos y Acuarios (AIZA) is a non-profit organization that brings together the main zoos and aquariums in Spain and Portugal.

In its beginnings it was constituted as the Spanish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AEZA). Throughout the years it grew gradually and from 1998 the number of associates began to increase more rapidly until it reached forty. Part of this growth can be attributed to the joining of Portuguese zoos and aquariums in 2000, which led to the change of name from the then AEZA to the current AIZA.

EAZA - European Association of Zoos and Aquaria

The European Association of Zoos and Aquaria  promotes cooperation for wildlife conservation, in particular internationally coordinated programs of wildlife keepers such as the European Endangered Species Programs (EEP). Promoting environmental education.

WAZA - World Association of Zoos and Aquariums

Selwo Aventura follows the strategies of the WAZA (World Association of Zoos and Aquariums) on animal conservation and welfare, whose members are leading zoos, aquariums, associations, affiliated organizations and corporate partners around the world.

The goal of the World Organization of Zoos and Aquariums is to guide, encourage and support zoos, aquariums and related associations in animal care and welfare, environmental education and global conservation.

Selwo Aventura participates in various captive breeding programs for endangered species (EEP). Important work that contributes to the conservation and reproduction of endangered species on our planet.
