The bare-faced curassow exhibits sexual dimorphism. The plumage of the hen is buff underneath and greyish with white bands on the rest of the body. The cock is completely black except for the underparts and the tip of the tail, which is white. It stands about 75-85 cm high and its weight ranges from 2.2 to 2.8 kg. It feeds on grains, fruit, leaves, flowers, larvae and insects.
The bare-faced curassow mates in the rainy season. It build its nest in trees or bushes using sticks, stalks and leaves to form a platform where it will incubate a pair of rough-shelled eggs for 28 days.
