Tree of average size, which can grow to 6-8m in height. The leaves measure 10-20 cm in length and width, rounded and bilobate at the base. The flowers look a little like orchids and are pink, purple or white in colour. The fruit is a legume of 20-30 cm in length, flat and somewhat curved.
DISTRIBUTION: Originally from tropical Asia.
CURIOSITIES: In India the leaves and buds are used as food. For Buddhists it is a sacred species.
