The honey locust is a deciduous tree of 9-12 m height. Trunk and branches covered in thorns. Greenish coloured flowers in bunches, much visited by bees. It tends to produce abundant fruit every 3-5 years. Its fruit are legumes which twist into a spiral shape.
Its wood is used in carpentry. The mucilage from the seed can be used for creams, ice-creams, etc. The fruit is sweet and has been used as food for livestock.
