Maintaining environmental balance is a maxim for Selwo Aventura, as it takes on the commitment of protecting the species of fauna and flora in danger of extinction.
The varied orography and amplitude of the Park allows the animals to live in controlled environments which reproduce their habitats of origin. A team of expert veterinarians and keepers are in charge of the animals at Selwo Adventure. Aspects such as feeding, with personalised and balanced diets for each species, observation and monitoring of the animals or the special care devoted by the veterinary team to breeding, with monitoring of gestation and, subsequently, babies.
AIZA – Iberian Association of Zoos and Aquariums
The Iberian Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AIZA) is a non-profit making entity which brings together the principal zoological parks and aquariums of Spain and Portugal.
In its beginnings it was constituted as the Spanish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AEZA). Over the years it gradually grew and from 1998 the number of associates quickly increased, reaching forty in number. Part of this growth can be attributed to the entry in the year 2000 of the zoos and aquariums of Portugal, fact which led to the change of name of the then AEZA to the current AIZA.
EAZA - European Association of Zoos and Aquariums
Promotes cooperation for the conservation of fauna, in particular for internationally coordinated breeding programmes for wild animals, such as the European Endangered Species programmes (EEP). It also promotes environmental education
WAZA - World Association of Zoos and Aquariums
The World Association of Zoos and Aquariums is the “umbrella” organisation for the world community of Zoos and Aquariums. Amongst its members are the leading Zoos and Aquariums from around the world, and Zoo and Aquarium Associations at both regional and national level, as well as other affiliated organisations, such as Zoo Veterinarians or Zoo Educators from around the world. Together they are “United for Conservation”.
Selwo Adventure participates in different programmes for the breeding in captivity of endangered species (EEP’s). Important work which contributes to the conservation and reproduction of species in danger of extinction on our Planet.
